At Savannah’s Comic Con on Sunday, an ultra-rare copy of Spider-Man, the first to feature the Green Goblin, was on display. That alone makes it valuable, but this particular copy has much more of a story behind it.
According to its current owner, back in the 80’s, the then-owner gave the book to his girlfriend as a gift. Shortly after, they had a falling out, and she defaced the cover, insides, and back of the book, but that’s what makes it so rare.
Collectors and enthusiasts come from all around to catch a glimpse of the unique treasure.
Dustin Ruff from Ruff Edges Comics told WJCL that similar quality editions of the comic go for thousands.
“It’s one of a kind. I mean, who in their right mind is going to take a book, in this condition, that they know is worth thousands of dollars, and deface it just like that, just to kind of do a comic,” he said.
Ruff told us the highest offer he’s received so far for the book is $50K. Even still, Ruff plans to keep the comic for a long time to come.
