Historic Savannah Foundation’s next virtual lecture in the “People, Places and Stories that Define Savannah” series will feature Landmark Preservation co-founder Greg Jacobs. The online presentation, set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, “A Retrospective of 25 Years of Preservation Work in Savannah” will highlight Jacobs’ most notable projects.

Before earning a degree in historic preservation from Savannah College of Art and Design in 1997, Jacobs began a career in preservation by starting Renaissance Restorations, LLC., a company focused on rehabilitating condemned buildings in Savannah’s historic districts. Following graduation, Jacobs went on to rehabilitate dozens of historic commercial and residential structures. He later broadened his work to pioneer the redevelopment of an entire neighborhood in Savannah, now commonly referred to as the Starland District. Throughout Jacobs’ career, he has restored and conserved countless historic structures. He possesses vast expertise in assessing historic structures and developing compatible, historically appropriate means and methods. Furthermore, he has been instrumental in the hands-on conservation of many historic structures and their materials.

“We are looking forward to Greg’s presentation about his experience with a multitude of restoration and rehabilitation projects in Savannah, as well as the historic residential homes that are here. It’ll be wonderful to learn about all the structures that have been preserved thanks to Greg’s hard work and dedication – plus, we’ll get a firsthand glimpse into the process and an understanding of everything that goes into it,” HSF Education and Research Associate Kimberly Newbold said.
