Downtowner provides free, safe and easy transportation

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The next time you want to go shopping or out to dinner on Broughton Street without the hassle of parallel parking, use Downtowner ride-share service.

Beginning in 2019, Savannah became one of three cities to contract Downtowner as a transportation service that can be used for free by anyone with a smartphone. Downtowner operates from the Savannah River to the south end of Forsyth Park, and in between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and East Broad Street.

Downtowner services Historical Savannah from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon – 9 p.m. on weekends, perfect for everyone from casual weekday workers to college students having a fun weekend shopping on Broughton.

Downtowner is easily accessible through the app, available on iOS and Android devices. It operates similarly to Uber. After entering their location, riders can view wait times and driver’s progress before being picked up and dropped off within the working area. The app interface also has suggestions for dining, hotels and shopping. Downtower counts of how many riders have visited these options in the past week.

The service is also great for anyone visiting either Tampa, Florida or Aspen, Colorado. In order to accommodate riders during the pandemic, Downtowner ensures that both the interior and exterior of vehicles are cleaned every hour. Shared rides have also been suspended.

Overall, Downtowner provides Savannah with a free, safe and convenient mode of transportation for some busy hotspots. Although not common knowledge, this service could drastically change the way SCAD students move around Savannah.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
