Why is The Olde Pink House Pink?

In addition to its famed dishes, locals and tourists are also attracted by the Olde Pink House’s amazing design and interior, which includes the restaurant’s unique, beautiful color: pink!
The pink hue isn’t something new – it’s been part of the restaurant’s distinctive design for more than 100 years. The story behind the color is much more complex than a typical paint job, and it’s difficult to tell the full story without digging into the past of the restaurant.
A gentleman known as James Habersham Jr. began building a lavish mansion. Although it is normal to have delays during the building of a home, James experienced a rather unusual setback for a homeowner.
The structure of the mansion was constructed of red bricks that were then covered completely with white plaster. It’s possible that the quality of the bricks or the work itself wasn’t the best as these red bricks were able to seep into the plaster and make the mansion a hue of pink.
Habersham was worried that the mansion’s pink hue would make him the main attraction for the neighbors, something he did not want. His solution: Once the pink color starts to show through then apply white paint to it.
In the end, descendants of Habersham purchased the mansion that was home to a variety of owners throughout the decades. In the intervening years, every one of the residents continued to apply white paint over the dreadful pink color.
In the 1920s, a woman purchased the mansion in order to start the tea shop and then chose not to follow the trend and painted all the mansion in pink. Since then, the mansion has become recognized for its signature color.
