Free Family-Friendly Event to Feature Live Music, Tributes to U.S. Armed Forces & More May 26-29

Plant Riverside District will host the 2023 “Savannah Salutes” Memorial Day Celebration Fri. May 26 through Mon. May 29, 2023. This family-friendly event, which is free and open to the public, will take place along Savannah’s historic riverfront at 400 W. River St.

This patriotic four-day event will include a special Memorial Day presentation by the Veterans of Foreign Wars on the Montgomery Park Stage on Mon. May 29 at 5 PM and free live music and food and drink options for all ages throughout the holiday weekend.

Featured performers include the Parris Island Marine Band on Sat. May 27 at 1 PM.; the Eric Culberson Blues Band on Sun. May 28 at 1 PM.; Hollifield on Sun. May 28 at 6 PM.; and Laiken Love and The Fellowship of Love on Mon. May 29 at 1 PM

Additional highlights include a Savannah Ghost Pirates Slapshot Booth on Sat. May 27 and Sun. May 28, 2-6 PM and nightly fountain show in Martin Luther King, Jr. Park at 9 PM featuring patriotic music and a tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces.

After dark, Plant Riverside District’s smokestacks and fountains will be illuminated with red, white, and blue lights.

It’s the start of summer in Savannah, Georgia and the Plant Riverside District is getting ready to celebrate Memorial Day with style. Thousands of people have flocked to the district’s many attractions, ready to take part in a weekend of activities, entertainment, and revelry.

This year, the Plant Riverside District is offering a wide variety of activities to honor the men and women who have served in our armed forces. The festivities start on Saturday, May 29th with a special Memorial Day flag ceremony. At 8:00 am, the flag will be raised on the main stage in the district, followed by the playing of taps and a brief moment of silence.

The weekend will also feature a variety of live music performances, from classic rock to jazz. There will be food trucks offering delicious treats and drinks, and artisans selling handmade crafts and jewelry. The district will also be hosting a special “Memorial Day Sunday” line-up of events, including a kids’ zone with activities, face painting, and a Memorial Day-themed parade.

For those looking to take in some history, the district will be offering tours of the historic Forsyth Park, one of the oldest and most iconic parks in the city. Visitors can also explore the district’s many museums and galleries, which feature artwork from local and international artists.

The weekend will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display on Monday night, May 31st. This will be followed by a special Memorial Day ceremony, featuring a 21-gun salute and a moment of silence to honor those who have served in our armed forces.
