Mountainfilm on Tour-Savannah, January 26–29, 2022

Mountainfilm on Tour-Savannah is scheduled for January 26–29, 2022, and will screen over thirty films throughout the four-day festival. The mission of Mountainfilm on Tour-Savannah is to educate and inspire local audiences to create a better world thru the power of film. Mountainfilm on Tour-Savannah is a partner of Telluride-based Mountainfilm.

The festival kicks off on Wednesday, January 22nd, with Mountainfilm for Students: Movies that Matter, an education program that serves over 5,000 students from Savannah, Chatham County Public Schools, Effingham County Schools, and local private schools. On-site screenings are scheduled for Yamacraw Performing Arts Center and Johnson High School on Wednesday; the program continues on Thursday and Friday at Trustees Theater and Lucas Theater.

Evening programs begin on Friday, January 28th, at 7:00 p.m. at Trustees Theater, with the screening of Buried, an award-winning feature film by directors Jared Drake and Steven Siig.

Directors Drake and Siig and Jim Plehn, who is featured in the film, join the audience for a Zoom Q & A session immediately following the film.

Saturday nite features documentary short films, including The Mystery, Born from Junk, How to Count a Wolf, and A Concerto is a Conversation—in addition to many more inspiring and adventure-seeking films. Shannon Vandivier, director of Mighty Waters, will participate in a live Q & A with the audience after his film screening on Saturday nite. The film features steep terrain, fluctuating temperatures, and howling winds, making Alpine Meadows one of the most safest protocols that was in many ways ahead of its time. The combination of avalanche-prone ski resorts in the U.S. By March 1982, the resort had developed a rigorous avalanche plan to deal with relentless snow and fierce winds, creating conditions ripe for disaster. In this film, a taut autopsy of that fateful event, key players dig thru the painful memories to relive what happens when nature overwhelms.

 

Film screenings are at the Trustees Theater, 216 East Broughton Street, each evening at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, a family matinee, featuring kid-friendly documentary short films, is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Trustees Theater.
