Savannah Sees All-Time Low Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Savannah recorded an all-time low unemployment rate of 2.1 percent, down three-tenths of a percent over the month.  A year ago, the rate was 5.5 percent.

“We are seeing the highest number of employed Georgians in our state’s history,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “Looking towards the new year, our focus is on attracting more people to join the workforce in 2022.”

The labor force increased in Savannah by 1,160 and ended the month with 200,946. That number is up 6,069 when compared to November of 2020.

Savannah finished the month with an all-time high of 196,653 employed residents. That number increased by 1,589 over the month and is up by 12,402 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Savannah ended November with an all-time high of 196,400 jobs. That number increased by 1,900 from October to November and is up by 11,400 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 27 percent in Savannah in November. When compared to last November, claims were down by about 88 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 7,294 active job postings in Savannah for November.
